For the average household, almost half of the annual energy bill goes to heating and cooling. Installing an ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat to control your heating and cooling system can help you save money and earn a rebate up to $50. Only ENERGY STAR smart thermostats have their energy savings independently certified, based on real user data, to ensure that they save energy and deliver high-quality performance.

Acquiring your rebate

Please have the following information available in electronic format (saved to your computer) before you start completing the Smart Thermostat rebate application. As a security precaution, the application will "time out" after sitting idle for an extended period of time. To avoid any inconvenience, you will want to have your electronic documents ready to upload.

  • Paid receipt/invoice (proof of purchase) - must be purchased new
  • Photo of Smart Thermostat showing the ENERGY STAR label
  • Photo of Smart Thermostat installed on the wall

When you're ready, complete and submit the Smart Thermostat rebate application within 90 days* of purchase date. Once you submit the application, you will receive an enrollment/confirmation number that you can use to access your application. Be sure to write down and save the enrollment/confirmation number. If you have questions, call 813-275-3909 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To access an existing application, simply enter the enrollment/confirmation number you received when you initially submitted your application. This will allow you to make changes and upload any required files.

Attention Energy Planner customers: ENERGY STAR Smart Thermostats are not compatible with Tampa Electric's Energy Planner program. Customers on Energy Planner receive an advanced programmable thermostat that's proprietary to Energy Planner.

*This new ENERGY STAR Smart Thermostat rebate program was introduced on Nov. 2, 2020. Thermostats purchased prior to this date do not qualify for the rebate.
